How the World’s most circular* backpack was made
In December 2019, Bergans and Spinnova launched the world's first industrially made product from Spinnova fibres.
In the process of making it, every established behavior was challenged - from the way we look at materials to the way we design, sell, own and ultimately dispose of products.
Our top priority was to make a product that redefined circularity in its category. The Spinnova Pure Tech process is extremely suitable for this, as it can accept all cellulosic materials as a source.
It made sense to set an ambitious challenge, by going back to where Bergans was born - with a backpack that revolutionized the industry.
A backpack needs materials with different properties; soft and pliable fabrics, padding for a comfortable harness and webbing and buckles to adjust and close the pack. With only cellulosic materials to work with, we turned to classic ways of construction, of wrapping and of connecting.
